Frere Jacques Scratch Challenge!

Just a quick idea…

I was working with Year 4 this afternoon making music with Scratch, based on an another idea from Phil Bagge here. One child made what sounded like the first four notes of ‘Frere Jacques’. At that point, lots of the children asked if they could make the rest, so we did! It gave a good excuse to use repeats to save time, and to work out that notes of 0.25, 0.5 and 1 beats duration are needed for different phrases.

After that, I set the challenge to make it play in the round – which some of the children achieved by duplicating the code and using a 4 beat rest at the start.
